Elmo’s X Account Hacked
Hacker Posts a Flurry of Vile Messages on Elmo's X Account

Sesame Street’s furry red monster Elmo has around 650,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter). On July 14, 2025 his official account was briefly taken over by an unknown hacker. The hacker posted a flurry of vile messages instead of Elmo’s usual friendly content. In one tweet the hacker wrote; “ALL JEWS SHOULD ***…JEWS CONTROL THE WORLD AND NEED TO BE ************.” Other posts called President Trump “Netanyahu’s puppet” (ironic coming from a puppet) and demanded that he “release the Epstein files”.
Sesame Workshop's Response:
Sesame Workshop (the nonprofit behind Sesame Street) confirmed the breach and condemned the content. A spokesperson for Sesame Workshop said in a statement; “Elmo's X account was compromised today by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts. We are working to restore full control of the account.” Control over the account has since been restored and the offensive posts removed.
